Laser-induced fluorescence/atomic resonance scattering instrument for the detection of BrO, ClO, ClONO2, BrONO2, and ClOOCl
This instrument was developed for the thermal dissociation/resonance fluorescence detection of ClONO2, ClOOCl, ClO, and BrO. ClO and BrO are detected by the proven technique of chemical conversion followed by resonance fluorescence detection of Cl atoms at 118.9 nm and BrO at 158 nm. Modifications to the BrO detection system prior to SOLVE provide substantially improved sensitivity, precision, and spatial resolution than previous incarnations of the experiment. In time, the IO instrument will be added to the fleet of instruments on airborne platforms.
